Saying goodbye to Kayla

Saying goodbye to Kayla has been the hardest day of my life so far. My heart is aching for her. I knew joining the Marine Corps is something that she has wanted for a while now. We have gone through alot together to get to this point. As a mom you always want more for your children than you had for yourself. I want my daughter's to go out on their own and find themselves. I want them to find out what they like, don't like, fall in love, fall out of love, make mistakes, travel, meet many people and eventually get married and have babies. I want everything to be on their terms and do things because they feel it's right. I love Kayla so much that even as my heart feels broken and I am scared and worrying about her like never before, I am willing to let her go. I wish she was just going off to college somewhere, that would be a little less painful knowing she's not being physically and emotionally challenged on a daily basis, but this is what she chose in her life. I am her mother and her supporter until the end. She was my first born baby and I will always remember the great times we've shared.  I am so proud of her for being such a strong girl, and soon to be women. I thank God for giving her to me and letting us grow up together. I can't wait until we see eachother again in October.

My very own hero

My husband is my hero. He is a Gunnery Sgt in the United States Marines. He is in charge of training about a 100 marines. They have to be ready for war at a moments notice. He gets up every morning at 5:30 and is always early for work. He has never been late in his 14 years as a marine. His superiors write nothing but great things about him on his fitness reports. All these things make me very proud of him but they are not the only reason why he is my hero. My husband is my hero because when he married me he was getting a whole package. I had 3 kids already. He has been a great father to them and always makes sure our family is taken care of so he can do his job for our counrty He is agreat husband and my best friend. Things are not perfect in the Shumate household but I wouldn't have it any other way. We fight and argue maybe more than alot of people but we have made it through some very tough times in our marriage. He has been there for us through it all and I am so proud to be his wife. I love you big daddy!!!!.

Pool time!!!!!

Daisy has been begging me for a month now to get out the pool. It just hasn't been hot enough to play in the water......until today!! It was about 78 today and we are lovin it!!! Luckily the little neighbor girl came over and played with Daisy for hours. I love to watch the kids play in the pool and see how many new tricks they can come up with. I remember summertime being full of fun. Even on boring days my friends and I would come up with silly things to do. Ahhhhh... to be a kid again!!

Sleepovers!!!!!

Emily turned 12 this year and I can't believe how fast this time has come. Next year I will have another teenager. I am crazy and decided to say yes when Emily asked if she can have 8 of her friends come over for a sleepover. The girls had so much fun and I scored some points for being the cool mom for a day! I'm just not too sure if I will be up for this next year! Maybe we will stick to 3 or 4 kids next time.

Fun at the beach

Aimee and I took the kids to San Diego and stayed in a hotel on the beach. It was so fun and the kids had a blast!
