Playing Sick!!!

I went to the orthodontist yesterday and they put a REALLY thick wire on my top arch. They also put a button on the inside of my upper tooth and now I have to wear this rediculous rubber band connecting to my bottom tooth. I know many teenagers go through this as did my older two and now Emily. I on the other hand am going through it as an adult, and although I will be thankful when my smile is OH SO BEAUTIFUL, I am hating these stupid braces!!! My kids make fun of me when I complain that my teeth hurt because they say I didn't give them much sympathy when they had their braces on. I don't know about that but they are probably right! HAHA. So I have been using this as an excuse to lay around all evening. I was supposed to go to a Toys For Tots dinner with the family but sent the kids and Jack instead. I can't complain having a night all to myself and not having to cook dinner. Whoo hoo!!!

I have had a journal on and off since I was about 12 or 13. I guess back then I called it a Diary. Anyway, I have been doing a bit more latley and having (sick) days like today is the best time to catch my journal up on "The Shumate's"! I love to think that one day my Grandchildren or even great, great Grandchildren will be able to read my journal. I would LOVE to read a journal from my great, great Grandmother. It would be very intresting to find out if she worried or stressed over the same thing us moms do today. I would love getting to know her through her own journaling. Excuse my makeup-less face and big mouth! HA

Having me a fake sick day!

I've lost a pound since getting a new wire and rubberband! I can't eat anything

Military Spouse Questions and answers

1. How long have you been a military wife?
In June it will be 12 years

2. What branch of service is your husband?
USMC

3. Active/Reserve?
Active

4. What is his job?
It's called I&I.....training reservists

5. How many deployments have you gone through?
Four

6. Camo or Dress uniforms on your man?
Both! He keeps his iniforms at work right now so I don't get to see him very often in unifrom. That's part of why I like going to see him at work.

7. What do you like about being a military wife?
I like the security and the medical for sure

8. Do you live on base?
Not anymore. We bought our first house here.

9. What is your favorite base so far?
Well we've only had 3 because they keep sending my husband back to 29 Palms. So I would have to say MCRD San Diego.

10. What is the hardest part of the military life?
The kids changing schools and living away from my family.

11. Do you go to the grocery store or Commissary?
Commissary for sure but I just tried Winco and LOVE it!

12. Do you work or stay at home?
I have always stayed at home. There is no such thing as 9 to 5 in the Marine Corps and I can never count on my husband to help out with the kids

13. Do you have a lot of military wife friends?
Yes I do. They are the ones who understand exactly what you are going through

14. Do you prefer Walmart or the BX/PX/NEX/MCX?
We have a crappy PX here so I definatley choose Walmart. If you ever get a to check out 32nd street Navy Base PX, don't pass it up!

15. How did your husband propose?
Aww, my romantic husband just TOLD me we were getting married one day!!!!!!  Did I mention how romantic that guy is??? haha

After. He was already in four years when I met him and swore he was getting out. Funny how things change

17. How long have you been together?
12 years

18. Any kids?
Four. I already had 3 when I met him.

19. Any kids yet to come?
Grandkids someday. No more for us!

20. Is your husband one of those "I am soldier hear me HOOAH" kind of guys?
He is definatley the "Devil Dog" that you hear about.

21. Have you ever done combatives with your husband?
Like MIC MAP??? No, he has tried but i'm afraid to hurt the guy! ha

22. How many bases have you lived at?
29 Palms, San Diego, 29 Palms, 29 palms, Spokane Wa., and we just got the great news that he is headed back to 29 Palms very soon. The poor guy can't get away from there!!

23. If you could change one thing about the military?
I think women should run the finances. We could save so much money for the govenment. It's funny but true! I also think women should schedule the PCS ing. Everyone would pretty much get stationed where they want and it would make for happier spouses.

24. Do you like military balls?
I think i've explained that in my blog already. Yes and no

25. Where does your family live?
Southern California. That is one good thing about 29 Palms.

26. What do you do for a job?
I have done many jobs. I was a dental assistant, stocked shelves at the commissary, waitressing, etc. My favorite job and the one that I am best at is being a mom and running this household. It's not always easy but it is always rewarding when I see how happy my family is. I always say when I am an old lady taking my last breaths in a hospital bed with all my kids, grandkids, and great grandkids around, I will go to Heaven peacefully and willingly. What could be more important than being there for my children and husband??? Not anywhere I can think of!!

27. Have you ever gotten in a fight with an NCO's wife?
No but let me tell you i've met some crazy ass spouses out there that i've actually had to hide from. Seriously!! haha

28. Name one thing you do when your husband is gone.
The kids and I try to stay busy. We eat out a lot that's for sure!! :)

29. Do you think other wives do that too?
Oh yea, I know they do.....even if they won't admit it!!

I hope I don't seem negative about military life. It has it's ups and downs like anything else in life. It makes it hard for us military spouses to feel sorry for other women in certain situations because we have to deal with so much on our own. For instance, I have a friend who's not a miliatry spouse and she complains to me that her husband has to work out of town one night a week. Seriously????? How can I feel sympathy for her when I have spent countless nights by myself?? That is why it's easy to relate to military spouses. I have a great life and I don't ever want to sound ungrateful for what we have. :)  I am just a complainer.....it's what I do! haha

From Princess Belle to a Marine

This little girl was obsessed with Beauty and the Beast! She would dress up in her Belle Halloween costume and spin around as she watched herself in the mirror. She was so cute!  How many times was I embarrased because she wanted to wear that dam dress when we went out places?? I eventually hid the dress and probably gave it away to the Goodwill. I know, it sounds horrible now that I think about it. What I wouldn't give to go back to those days one more time!! She still loves Belle and I even bought her an adult Belle costume for Halloween one year (that she NEVER wore). I guess I was trying to make up for being the meanest mommy EVER!! It's crazy that the same little girl is a Marine and willing to serve our country. She will always be my little princess!!

Back home at Christmas time

In her cammies

At work in Japan

At her first Marine Corps Ball. Too bad she couldn't wear her Belle dress!!!

A little update

I've said it before and I will say it again, I don't show Jack how much I appreciate him. I am trying to work on that. Like today, Jack and Jordan have been working on the wood floors for about 4 hours now. Not kidding! I really can't help too much besides painting baseboards which I did in about 20 minutes because I am very quick!! (Just thought I would throw that in). So I made dinner and some oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. I cleaned up some of their mess and then felt I was in the way. Not much else for me to do so I watched my recorded episodes of RHOBH.  Don't act like you don't know what that is!!!! After all that I went to check and see how much progress they had made and this was it. That's what I thought!! That made me appreciate him a little more because I see how hard these jobs are and he only does them because I won't stop complaining about how I want wood floors.   Gotta love him! I am going to run him a warm bath ( he gets mad when it's too hot...the way I like it) when he is all done. See....I do appreciate the poor S.O.B...... I mean guy! HAHA

Jack and Jordan working so hard!!!

As I was coming up stairs I checked in on Ems and she was quietly reading in her room. I love that!
